Sally Cook
position

Sally CookSally brings her continued optimism and enthusiasm as a returning board member. She moved here two years ago from Ionia , with fellow board member and husband Doug Cook.

She is also a volunteer for the annual “Leave No Trace” program, which teaches students about water quality in the streams and rivers of Benzie County . Their classroom is a canoe on the Platte , their textbooks the ecology of a living river. For many students, this program proves to be the first time paddling down any river.

“Education is a huge part of what the Conservation District offers the community,” she says. “Going into the schools and offering canoe trips are something that definitely needs to keep going.”

Sally’s participation in this program is invaluable for keeping it going since the District lost the field technician who facilitated the program.

Education is a natural part of Sally’s interest. She holds a degree in English and Literature from Lake Superior State College. She taught at Ionia High School and Montcalm Community College . She is also a weaver.
