Jack Pine (Pinus banksiana) 2-0
Light: likes plenty of sunlight
Soil: prefers dry, sandy, and acidic soils
Height: can reach heights of 30’ to 80’
Sometimes called a pioneering tree, Jack pine lives in poor soils where other species struggle to survive. Needles are greenish yellow. The branches and crown form a unique, irregular shape. As timber, Jack pine is used for pulp, construction, posts, and poles. Jack pine famously provides habitat for Kirtland’s Warbler, a rare Michigan bird that was removed from the endangered species list in 2019 thanks in part to Jack pine planting efforts.
Bareroot seedlings are 10-18", 2 years old, and have been in a transplant bed for 0 years.
