Invasive Species Removal at the Crystal Lake Outlet

Cohosted with Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy

When: Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 9:45am-12:00pm

Where: Crystal Lake Outlet, meeting at Crystal Lake Railroad Trail parking lot (map).

Registration appreciated: see link below.

About:
Volunteers needed! Baby’s breath is one of the most harmful invasive species in our region. It threatens beaches, dunes, and other sunny areas by crowding out native species and preventing the natural processes of our shifting sands. These habitats are at risk, but you can help! Please join us to remove baby’s breath at Crystal Lake Outlet.

How to prepare:
  • Please note that baby’s breath removal is moderately strenuous
  • Gloves, tools, and training provided
  • Dress for working outdoors: sturdy, closed-toed shoes and long pants are recommended for protecting against poison ivy.
  • Please bring your own water, snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray
  • Cancellations due to weather or any other reason will be communicated with registered participants via email
