How to use iNaturalist to identify Michigan flora & fauna

Hosted by Benzie Shores District Library

When: Monday, June 29, 2026 at 5:30pm

Where: Benzie Shores District Library (in the Program Room)

July is Libraries Love Lakes month and Lake Appreciation Month in Michigan. The BCD is partnering with local libraries to host a variety of programs and provide curated reading lists for kids and adults. Check back with your local library and the BCD website to see what's happening in July!

About:

The Benzie Conservation District needs you (and your phone) for science! Learn how to use iNaturalist to start identifying and recording species you encounter on the water, on the trail or even in your backyard.

Plus, learn how you can help out with a statewide effort to support lake conservation in Michigan through the Aquatic Invasive Detection Blitz between June 29 and July 12.

Please come to the event with a smartphone or tablet with the iNaturalist app already downloaded on your device (iNaturalist is free to download and make an account; users must be 13+). You should also make an account with iNaturalist.

We will go over how to use iNaturalist indoors. Weather permitting, we will walk around the library to make our first observations on iNaturalist together!
