[email protected] | 231-882-4391 x 13
John joined the BCD in 2016 after earning his Bachelor's Degree from Lake Superior State University in Fisheries and Wildlife Management and a Master’s Degree in Coastal Sciences from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he researched the effects of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill on larval fish.
Although his job involves a variety of projects, he is known as the “water quality guy” in Benzie County. John works closely with regional partners to monitor and protect our local waterways. His responsibilities include leading volunteer stream monitoring events and field trips down the Platte River with Benzie students, conducting regular water monitoring in all three major watersheds, surveying and treating invasive species, creating, updating, and implementing watershed protection plans, writing grants, and conducting site visits. He also serves as the Lake Biologist for the Crystal Lake Watershed Association. John’s passion for conservation stems from his childhood as an avid outdoor enthusiast. In his free time, he can still be found fishing, hunting, or exploring the quiet corners of Northwest Michigan. |
