Paddle & Plant ID

When: Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 10:00am - 12:00pm.

Where: Herendeene Lake, meeting at the public launch off Reynolds Road (map). DNR Recreation Passport required for parking.

Registration required: due to the nature of this event, registration will be capped at 15 people. See below for the sign up link.

About:
Have you ever wondered about the curious underwater world of our lakes? Join the BCD Conservation Technician, Jodi Monteith, and AIS Coordinator, Kyla Robinson, to learn more about the “underwater forests” of our inland lakes.

In addition to learning more about aquatic plants, this event will also support the statewide Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Detection Blitz. While we paddle and look at plants, we encourage you to take pictures of any invasive species found to submit to the free iNaturalist app. This contributes to statewide efforts of monitoring invasive species. To support the AIS Detection Blitz, download the free app iNaturalist and join the MiCorps AIS Detection Blitz project to share your photos. Detailed information and helpful instructions are available on the MiCorps website.

How to prepare:
  • Participants are expected to bring their own paddle craft (kayak, SUP, canoe), paddle, and personal flotation device (lifejacket).
  • Please be sure to bring your own water, sun block, insect repellent, and snack if desired.
  • We will be going at a leisurely pace. You can expect around 15-20 minutes of onshore discussion before we head out on the lake for the remainder of the time (approximately 1.5 hours).

Registration is required: Due to the nature of this activity, registration will be capped at 15 people. If you need to cancel your registration, please email Kyla Robinson at [email protected] so we may open the spot up for someone else.
