Sugar maple is prized for syrup making; it is the only tree today used for commercial syrup production, as its sap has twice the sugar content of other maple species. It is widely planted as an ornamental or shade tree due to its dense crown and vibrant colors. The leaves are bright green and turn a mix of yellow, orange, and red in the fall. Sugar maples are valued by wildlife for browsing and nesting. Its hard wood also gives it many uses as timber.
