American Witch-hazel (Hamamelis virginiana)
Grows 15 to 30 feet. This shrub's fragrant flowers are bright yellow, with four slender creamy to bright yellow petals, appearing in September–November. American witch-hazel is pollinated by a moth. Plant on northside of homes and north-facing slopes where semi-shaded habits are more common. It prefers rich moist soils and requires regular watering when being established. Flowering does not start until the plants are at least six years old. Bareroot seedlings are 12-24."
