Technical services & site visits

We offer technical services, management information, and site visits for citizens, lake associations, and other interested groups throughout Benzie County. We can assist in water quality monitoring, aquatic and shoreline plant identification, shoreline management, and more. Contact our Conservation Specialist, John Ransom, for assistance: [email protected] or 231-882-4391 x 13.

Watershed resources

Benzie County is home to three major watersheds: Platte, Betsie, and Herring Lakes. Each has incredible waters to steward and helpful resources for both landowners and conservationists. Learn more about these watersheds and their management resources.

Volunteer opportunities

You can make a difference for Benzie’s beautiful waters! In the summer, join our Betsie and Platte River Clean Sweeps to keep these rivers healthy. In the fall and spring, help us track water quality by finding and identifying insects at our Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program. Volunteer program details and registration forms will be posted on our events page closer to the date. To find more volunteer opportunities, join our volunteer list.

Northwest Michigan Watersheds Coalition

In 2011, we launched the Benzie Watersheds Coalition, now renamed Northwest Michigan Watersheds Coalition (NMWC), to connect local conservation groups and resource managers who share a passion for stewarding Benzie County’s three watersheds. Learn more about the work being done by this group.
