On August 2nd, 2022 the Benzie Conservation District will have a proposal on the primary election ballot. This is a renewal of an existing millage in the amount of 0.125 mill for 8 additional years. This equates to a payment of $12.50 per year on property with a taxable value of $100,000. If approved and levied in full, this millage will raise an estimated $177,826.27 in the first calendar year of the levy based on taxable value. (As required by State law, a small portion of the millage may be captured by the City of Frankfort Downtown Development Authority and the Benzie County Brownfield Authority.)

Why is the Conservation District asking for a millage?

The Benzie Conservation District is funded in various ways, mostly through grant awards and millage payments. Grant monies are often short term and can be unpredictable. Millage funding is guaranteed to support the District, its staff, and services for a number of years - without interruption. ​
