It’s hard to believe 2023 is already coming to a close! This year has been filled with invaluable connections to hundreds of passionate environmental stewards, and we are deeply grateful for our community’s participation in our mission: to preserve and enhance the natural resources of Benzie County. Please join us in celebrating a year of stewardship at our upcoming annual meeting.

This year, our free annual meeting will take place at the Mills Community House in Benzonia on December 7, 2023, starting at 6:00pm. Light refreshments will be catered by Suz McLaughlin’s Still Grinning Kitchens. At the meeting, you can expect:
  • Time to chat and network with conservation district staff
  • Highlights from 2023 and updates for the future
  • Board director elections
  • A special presentation from Sam Wolfe of Sleeping Bear Wildlife Fund

Director elections: how to participate

Our Board of Directors has one seat open for election of a four-year term, and Benzie County residents of legal age are eligible to participate in voting. You may vote at our annual meeting on December 7, 2023, or request an absentee ballot from us in advance.

Featured speaker topic: local wildlife rehabilitation

Guest presenter Sam Wolfe is the Executive Director and Co-founder of Sleeping Bear Wildlife Fund, a new nonprofit providing sanctuary and rehabilitation for mammals in northwestern Michigan. Since its launch, Sleeping Bear Wildlife Fund has filled a crucial need in Benzie County, and we are excited to hear Sam present about her nonprofit’s origins and first year of service.
