4/28/2023

Looking for something to read this summer? Check out the book selections featured for our District Readers summer series! This virtual book club starts again in May and will meet every other month to discuss environmental nonfiction, including:

  • Gathering Moss: A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses by Robin Wall Kimmerer
  • Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver
  • Saving Arcadia: A Story of Conservation and Community in the Great Lakes by Heather Shumaker (plus Q&A with the author!)

Free and open to all, this educational program brings together science and storytelling to show the many ways our lives overlap with the natural world.  At District Readers meetings, you can:

  • Connect with fellow nature-lovers and book-lovers
  • Learn about real-world environmental science
  • Share your own experiences related to each book’s themes

Attendees join the Zoom meetings from around northern Michigan, and beyond! Starting this May, we’re excited to partner with Eaton Conservation District to expand District Readers further. Thank you also to our previous attendees for providing feedback to enhance this program.
