Simplifying Seedlings: Virtual District Forester Office Hours begin next week

3/10/2023

With spring around the corner and our native seedling sale closing soon, now is the best time to plan your landscaping, gardening, and forestry projects. Curious about which trees will do best on your land? Looking for advice on how to care for seedlings? Your local conservation partners are here to help.

On March 15th at 6pm and March 22nd at 12pm, you're invited to join an "office hours" session with District Forester Ellie Johnson. During the meetings, which will take place for an hour over Zoom, she will share a quick presentation on how to select and care for seedlings, then host an open question and answer session.

So we can share advice specific to your goals, please consider the following prompts before the meeting:
  • What tree species are successfully growing now, or have grown on your property in the past?
  • How much sunlight does the area get? How moist is the soil?
  • What species of wildlife frequent the area?
  • What are your goals for planting trees? Support wildlife habitats? Privacy? Carbon sequestration?

These office hour sessions will help simplify your journey of caring for trees. To register, please visit our events page or click here.

Have a question specific to the Benzie Conservation District's seedling sale? We're happy to answer it! Contact our staff at 231-882-4391, email info@benziecd.org, or stop by our office at 280 Benzie Blvd in Beulah Monday through Friday.
